The predecessor of China Heavy Duty Truck Group Co., Ltd. ("CNHTC" for short) is Jinan Automobile Manufacturing Factory, which was founded in 1930 and is the cradle of China's heavy duty truck industry. In 1960, Sinotruk produced China's first heavy truck, the Yellow River JN150 eight ton truck, ending the history of China's inability to produce heavy trucks. CNHTC is the largest heavy vehicle production base in China, making outstanding contributions to the development of China's heavy vehicle industry and national economic construction.

In September 2018, China Heavy Truck Group ranked 182nd among the "2018 Top 500 Chinese Enterprises". In October 2018, China Heavy Duty Truck Group Co., Ltd. was listed on the Forbes 2018 Global Best Employers List. Ranked 70th among the top 500 Chinese manufacturing enterprises in 2019. In July 2020, it ranked 54th on the "2020 Top 100 Most Valuable Brands in China" list.
